Rejoicing and Mourning

Yesterday was a day of mixed emotion.  While rejoicing with the Imlers over the birth of Reed, Tiffany and I were simultaneously holding back tears of sorry over the news that a classmate in the translation department in Nairobi would have to deliver 3 weeks before her due date a stillborn child. Somehow we did manage to feel both joy and sorrow deeply.

As much as Kenya seemed very similar, my experiences there remind me that what Americans carry inside them through culture and experience is different from Kenyans.

I’m so sorry. So much death within that small community. I guess there’s been a lot here too but it’s so sad with babies.
